How to cope with stress

HOW TO COPE WITH STRESS

I have recently lost a person I Love. Midst to the pain of missing him, I found out that there were rumours that would hurt me after he was gone and couldn’t either be forgiven or punished. Once he is away, all I can do is understand that the tabloids conspire against life because this way capitalism earns time against what actually needs to be done, that is, the economic  remodeling.

Though the other person’s attitudes and decisions are none of my business, front to these situations I should feel anger or shame, humiliation or deception, and these feelings would easily be on my way to production.

All this harmful feelings could be treated in the Coping Skills group. The Coping skills group is a guided self-help group created for us to cope with our worries, preoccupations, anger and stress. So let’s verse a little on stress.

Stress is the disease created by the demand from our financial source which is over our human capacities. It combines a series of symptoms, such as nervous anorexia (because of the lack of time to eat properly), irritability that sums up into a bipolar disorder (delivered from the thrill of  over consumption of goods as a way of finding a purpose to our work and try to compensate our efforts), muscular tension (which can be noticed  also on the face muscles of the stressed person , who is feeling uncomfortable but has to keep a countenance),  chronic constipation (the employees many times don’t have a comfortable and  private place to evacuate at work, so the digestion of lunch – their only meal of the day - doesn’t complete itself. As a consequence of the nutrients not reaching the circulating system, they become unnourished but fat), among other symptoms.

As a consequence of the stress, many employees lack creativity and production, because they can’t see a purpose to their efforts. Though the pay and the benefits may be good, many times the workers feel their struggle to cope isn’t worthy. This dissatisfaction pushes them onto overbuying and debt, as well as a poor quality of family life and sometimes alcoholism and drug abuse.

What can corporations do to solve the problems work provokes through stress? There are a couple of measures that can be taken by the companies. Some have already been adopted by employers and others could easily b established.

1.       SNACK BAGS:  nutritionists have proved that it is healthy and mandatory to eat every three hours. People who can't eat every three hours tend to be anorexic, unnourished, anemic, osteoporotic, have eyesight problems. They also put on weight, because the mouth waters by the thought of food and this saliva accumulates in the stomach. This saliva undergoes fermentation with the rest of food in the stomach and produces a very jelly-like kind of fat in the region of the belly. Corporations could hire a service of SNACK BAGS, to offer 2 types of fruit, juice, milk or yogurt, and a cereal bar to be available to workers once a day in the afternoon.

2.       YOGA OR STRECHING EXERCISES:  Yoga is an ancient science to balance the human functions and it is worldly recognized as a powerful way to cope with the daily demands because it offers a benefit to the muscle strengthening, hormones, and glans. This makes Yoga a complete exercise to the nervous system and helps thinking, decision making and straightens the mind disturbs generated by life. Weekly Yoga classes could be provided before or after the work shift.

3.       COPING SKILLS GROUP: A guided self-help group, which was created and held by Dr. Kenneth Fox – 1944-2012, WA/USA. In this group students were encouraged to talk about their problems, anger, stress, and learn a technique to deal with it within the academic world as well as in their personal lives. One of the purposes of this group was to see the other as a human and relate to his problem as your own, as you understand we all have the same nature or dwellings. This type of therapy brings people closer as a team and can be easily held in companies. I have further literature on the Coping Skills group in case any corporation is interested on adopting it.

Other types of compensation and behavioral group benefits, such as language courses and seminars, are also highly recommended. Nevertheless, corporations need to keep in mind that the employees need to feel cared for and initiatives such as the ones presented in this article show them respect as human beings.

A healthy employee is a productive, creative and content employee.  These measures may also be an investment on new niches of economy.
